About LEG STYLE CRAB SELECT
Kroger Leg Style Crab Select is an imitation crab product from The Kroger Co.'s Kroger brand, made from Alaska pollock surimi shaped and colored to resemble crab leg meat. The primary ingredients are Alaska pollock, water, corn starch, sugar, and sorbitol for body and sweetness. Flavoring includes natural and artificial flavor extracts from blue crab, snow crab, lobster, and Alaska pollock to approximate shellfish taste without using actual crab. Refined fish oil from anchovy and sardine provides omega-3 content and contributes to flavor. Carmine is used as a color additive to create the reddish exterior characteristic of crab legs; carmine is derived from cochineal insects and is not vegan. Titanium dioxide provides the white interior color. Egg whites are present as a binder, introducing eggs as a major allergen.
Major allergens include fish (pollock, anchovy, sardine), eggs, soy (lecithin), and shellfish via the flavor extracts from crab and lobster. Actual shellfish protein is not guaranteed to be present, but shellfish-allergic individuals should exercise caution. At 100 calories per 100 grams with 10 grams of protein, 14.4 grams of carbohydrates, and zero fat, this product is relatively low in calories with moderate protein.
Imitation crab is used in California rolls, seafood salads, crab cakes, pasta dishes, and dips as a more affordable alternative to real crab. The leg-style shape mimics the visual presentation of crab meat. Available at Kroger, Harris Teeter, and other Kroger Co. stores in the refrigerated seafood section.
