Our Data
Powered by the same database researchers use.
All nutritional information on Nutosa is sourced from the USDA FoodData Central database, maintained by the United States Department of Agriculture. This is the gold standard in food composition data and the same source used by researchers, dietitians, and health professionals worldwide.
We incorporate data from two primary USDA datasets. The SR Legacy (Standard Reference) database contains research-grade nutrient profiles for thousands of common foods — fruits, vegetables, meats, grains, dairy, and more. Each entry in the SR Legacy dataset has been analyzed in laboratory settings, with nutrient values measured through standardized scientific methods including chromatography, spectrophotometry, and combustion analysis. The Branded Food Products Database extends our coverage to include packaged and branded foods, with nutrition label data contributed by food manufacturers through the USDA Global Branded Food Products Database (GFBPD) program.
Together, these datasets give Nutosa users access to nutrition facts for nearly 500,000 food items. We regularly sync our database with the latest USDA releases to ensure accuracy. Each food entry includes up to 65 individual nutrient values, covering macronutrients (calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber), vitamins (A, C, D, E, K, B-complex), minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc), and other components like cholesterol, saturated fat, and added sugars.
Daily Value percentages shown on Nutosa are based on the FDA reference diet of 2,000 calories per day, following the most current Daily Reference Values (DRVs) and Reference Daily Intakes (RDIs) established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. For more details, see our Data Sources page.
