About RED CHERRY HALVES
Paradise Fruit Company Red Cherry Halves are maraschino-style candied cherries made from cherries processed with corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, water, citric acid, and preserved with potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, and sulfur dioxide. FD&C Red 40 and natural and artificial flavor are added for the characteristic bright red color and sweet cherry taste. Per 100 g, they deliver 300 calories, 0 g protein, 73 g carbohydrates, and 0 g fat, with 3.3 g fiber. These are a baking and confectionery ingredient rather than a fresh or minimally processed fruit product. The sulfur dioxide is used to bleach and preserve the original cherry before re-coloring with Red 40. Those with sulfite sensitivities or those avoiding artificial dyes should note these additions. Commonly used in fruitcakes, cocktails, ice cream sundaes, and decorative baking.
