About FROSTED SUGAR COOKIES
The Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies in this version are sold under Walmart's The Bakery sub-brand and feature an ornate multi-color frosted decoration using an extensive dye blend: Blue 1 Lake, Yellow 5 Lake, Blue 1, Blue 2, Blue 2 Lake, Red 3, Red 40, Red 40 Lake, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, and Yellow 6 Lake. The cookie itself uses enriched bleached wheat flour, margarine, and eggs as its core structure, with nonfat milk and sodium caseinate as additional dairy components. The decorative elements use shellac (confectioner's glaze) for shine and carnauba wax.
Critical flags: Red 3 (erythrosine) is present — subject to FDA ban effective January 2027. Sodium caseinate is a hidden dairy-derived protein (casein) that may be missed by consumers with milk allergies who do not recognize this ingredient name. Shellac is insect-derived. Allergens include wheat (gluten), dairy (nonfat milk, sodium caseinate), eggs, and soy (soy lecithin). The partial hydrogenation status should be checked on the current label.
Nutritionally, these cookies provide 400 calories per 100 grams with 70 grams of carbohydrates, 13.33 grams of fat, 3.33 grams of protein, and no fiber. They are calorie-dense seasonal decorative cookies. Not appropriate for gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, or egg-free diets. The Bakery positioning makes these a popular grab-and-go dessert item from Walmart's in-store bakery section.
