About GRADE A FAT FREE MILK
Mountain Dairy Grade A Fat Free Milk is a skim (fat-free) dairy milk product sold under The Kroger Co.'s Mountain Dairy regional brand. Mountain Dairy is one of the Kroger Company's regional dairy brands, alongside Springdale and others, used in markets where Kroger operates regional dairy plants or regional store banner identities.
The ingredient list is: skim milk, vitamin A palmitate, and vitamin D3. Skim milk is produced by removing essentially all milkfat from whole milk through centrifugal separation. FDA regulations mandate that reduced-fat and fat-free milks be fortified with vitamin A, as the fat-soluble vitamin is lost with the cream during skimming. Vitamin D3 fortification is also required for standardized milk products. Both vitamins are added at established regulatory levels.
A 240-milliliter serving provides 80 calories (per 100 ml: 33 calories), 3.33 grams protein, 5 grams carbohydrates (lactose), and zero fat. The very low caloric density makes fat-free milk the lowest-calorie dairy milk option, with the same protein and calcium benefits as whole milk.
Allergens: dairy (milk). No wheat, soy, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, or sesame. Not suitable for vegans or dairy-allergic individuals. Suitable for lactose-intolerant individuals only with lactase enzyme supplementation or if purchasing lactose-free variants. Vitamin D3 in this product is derived from lanolin (sheep's wool fat), which is not vegan, though this is rarely disclosed on standard milk labels.
