About CHICKEN COOP COOKIE HOUSE KIT, CHICKEN COOP
Favorite Day Chicken Coop Cookie House Kit is a seasonal decorating kit sold under Target's Favorite Day dessert and treats sub-brand, designed for spring or Easter holiday engagement. The kit contains pre-baked cookie components in the shape of a chicken coop structure, along with colored icings, sprinkles, and colored sugar for decoration. A significant ingredient of note in this kit is Red 3 (erythrosine) in the sprinkle components. Red 3 is an FDA-certified synthetic colorant that has had a complicated regulatory history: the FDA banned its use in cosmetics and externally applied drugs in 1990 due to evidence of thyroid tumor formation in male rats at high doses, but the color additive remained permitted in food and ingested drugs under the Delaney Clause application complexity.
In January 2025, the FDA announced a final ruling revoking authorization for Red 3 in food, with compliance dates extending through 2027 for most food manufacturers. Products formulated prior to this ruling may still appear in commerce during the transition period. The cookie components contain enriched wheat flour, sugar, and palm oil as primary structural ingredients. The icing packets use sugar, corn syrup, and additional colorants. Allergens include wheat (cookie structure), milk (may be present in cookie or icing components), eggs (cookie batter), and soy (emulsifiers). The multi-component kit format means total allergen exposure depends on which components are consumed together.
