About ORGANIC COCONUT OIL
Meijer Organic Coconut Oil is a single-ingredient culinary oil from the Meijer brand, the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Midwest supercenter chain. The product contains only organic coconut oil, certified under USDA National Organic Program standards. Coconut oil is extracted from the dried meat (copra) or fresh meat of coconuts and is solid at room temperature due to its high saturated fat content. The organic certification ensures the coconuts were grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
At 800 calories per 100 grams with 93.33 grams of fat and zero carbohydrates, protein, or fiber, coconut oil is a pure fat source and one of the most calorie-dense foods available. Approximately 90% of the fat is saturated, primarily in the form of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) including lauric acid (C12), which behaves somewhat differently metabolically than long-chain saturated fats. The health implications of coconut oil are actively debated — some research suggests MCTs may support satiety and metabolic function, while major health organizations continue to recommend limiting saturated fat intake broadly.
This product contains no allergens, artificial ingredients, additives, HFCS, TBHQ, BHA, or PHOs. It is naturally vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free. Organic coconut oil is suitable for high-heat cooking, baking, sautéing, and as a dairy-free butter alternative. Its solid state at room temperature makes it useful as a shortening substitute in vegan baking, and its mild coconut flavor complements tropical, Asian, and baked applications.
