About DECORATING KIT
Wondershop Decorating Kit is a seasonal holiday baking kit from Target's Wondershop brand, containing two components: decorating candies and icing tubes. The decorating candies are sugar-based confections colored with Red 40, Yellow 5, Red 3, Blue 1, and related lake versions, finished with gum arabic, shellac, and carnauba wax for gloss. Shellac (confectioner's glaze) is derived from lac insects, making the candy coating technically non-vegan. The icing tubes contain sugar, water, corn syrup, modified corn starch, artificial flavor, carrageenan (a seaweed-derived thickener), citric acid, potassium sorbate, and mica-based pearlescent pigments for a shimmery finish — along with Red 3, Yellow 5, and Blue 1 as colorants. Mica-based pearlescent pigments, while approved for cosmetic use, have seen growing use in food decoration. Red 3 in both components falls under the FDA's January 2024 revocation ruling, with manufacturer compliance required by January 2027. At 375 calories per 100 grams, entirely from carbohydrates (100 g/100 g), this is a pure sugar product with no fat, protein, or fiber. The extremely small 4-gram serving size reflects use as a decoration rather than food. No major allergens are declared.
