About GLITTER GELS
Great Value Glitter Gels (this variant) are a baking decoration product from Walmart's Great Value brand. At 375 kcal per 100 g with 100 g carbs per 100 g (essentially pure sugar/syrup by dry weight in the small 4 g serving), these are concentrated sugar gels used for decorative purposes only. The key distinction from the 1796988 SKU is the inclusion of titanium dioxide as a white colorant and FD&C Red 3 in addition to Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 1, and Yellow 6.
FD&C Red 3 (erythrosine) is a synthetic dye that the FDA finalized a ban on in January 2025, with a compliance deadline of January 2027 for most food manufacturers. Its presence in this product is a notable flag for consumers and retailers as that compliance date approaches. Titanium dioxide is approved in the US but banned in the EU as a food additive. Artificial flavor is used rather than natural vanilla, unlike the companion glitter gel SKU. No HFCS, but corn syrup is present. No FASTER Act allergens.
