This Favorite Day Frosted Sugar Cookie variant from Target contains cochineal extract in the base dough (not just the sprinkles), meaning the insect-derived red pigment is incorporated directly into the cookie formulation. The sprinkles add shellac (another insect-derived ingredient), Red 3 (FDA phase-out January 2027), Red 40, Red 40 Lake, and Yellow 6 Lake for a vivid red-toned presentation — consistent with Valentine's Day or holiday-themed products. Calories are 421 per 100 grams with 66 g carbohydrates and 16 g fat. No fiber. The base is bleached enriched wheat flour, icing sugar, and a soybean-palm oil margarine with whey (milk).
