Each variety shares the same base of sugar, carnauba wax, and confectioner's glaze (shellac), with the only variation being the colorant system. The red variety uses both Red 40 and Red 3; as noted for other Red 3-containing products, the FDA finalized a ruling in January 2024 revoking Red 3 authorization for ingested foods with compliance required by January 2027, meaning this product's red component will require reformulation before that deadline. Confectioner's glaze is shellac from lac insects, rendering these crystals technically non-vegan. Carnauba wax adds gloss and prevents clumping. No allergens are present in any of the four color varieties. At 375 calories per 100 grams (100 g carbohydrates, zero fat, protein, and fiber), this is a pure sugar decoration product.
