About DECORATIVE SANDING SUGAR
Hyde and EEK! Boutique Decorative Sanding Sugar (multicolor variant) is a Halloween-themed coarse decorating sugar from Target's Hyde and EEK! Boutique seasonal brand, containing a blend of FD&C dyes that produce a multicolor sparkle effect on baked goods. The ingredients are sugar, Blue 1, Red 3, Yellow 5, Red 40, Yellow 6, Blue 2, confectioner's glaze, and carnauba wax. The multicolor blend incorporates six different FD&C synthetic dyes — one of the broadest dye arrays in the sanding sugar category. Of note, Red 3 is included, placing this product under the FDA's January 2024 ruling revoking Red 3 for ingested foods, with manufacturer compliance required by January 2027. Blue 2 (indigotine) is among the less commonly used FD&C dyes. Confectioner's glaze (shellac) is insect-derived, making the product non-vegan. Carnauba wax provides gloss and anti-caking properties. No allergens are present. At 375 calories per 100 grams (100 g carbohydrates, zero fat, protein, and fiber), this is a pure decorative sugar. The 4-gram serving size is standard for sanding sugars, applied in small sprinkles. The multicolor effect is particularly suited for Halloween cupcakes, cookies, and cakes.
