Favorite Day Decorating Icing with Star Tip in Pink is a piping icing from Target's Favorite Day brand, colored pink using Red 3 (erythrosine) as the sole colorant. The formulation follows the same base as the other Favorite Day star tip icings: sugar, palm oil and canola oil shortening with mono- and diglycerides and polysorbate 80, water, artificial flavor, corn starch, salt, meringue powder (with sodium aluminum sulfate, gum arabic, citric acid, cream of tartar, and vanillin), xanthan gum, potassium sorbate, and natural and artificial vanilla creme flavor. Red 3 as the sole pink colorant is significant: the FDA finalized a ruling in January 2024 revoking Red 3 authorization for ingested foods, with compliance deadlines of January 2027 for food manufacturers and January 2028 for ingested drugs. Products using Red 3 that are currently on shelves represent formulations predating this rule, and reformulation to compliant alternatives (typically Red 40 or beet juice extract) will be required before the compliance deadline.
