About BALSAMIC VINEGAR OF MODENA, BALSAMIC

Balsamic vinegar of Modena from Archer Farms is a bottled Italian vinegar produced in the Modena or Reggio Emilia provinces of Emilia-Romagna under the protected geographical indication (PGI) designation, made from a blend of concentrated grape must and wine vinegar aged in wooden barrels. Archer Farms, Target's premium private-label brand, sources this product to offer a culinary balsamic vinegar suitable for dressings, reductions, marinades, and finishing applications. The PGI designation guarantees geographic origin and minimum production standards, distinguishing this product from generic balsamic-style vinegars produced outside the designated region.

Balsamic vinegar of Modena PGI is produced under EC Regulation 583/2009, which establishes minimum must content, aging parameters, and geographic requirements. The product contains cooked grape must, wine vinegar, and in some formulations caramel color (sulfite ammonia caramel) to standardize the dark color. As a condiment vinegar, it contains negligible macronutrients but is used in small quantities for its distinctive sweet-acid balance. Consumers with sulfite sensitivity should note that balsamic vinegar of Modena naturally contains sulfites from the grape-derived ingredients and may have additional sulfites from caramel coloring agents.
